Incentive Ideas
For some children, praising your child and using the charts will be enough to teach and reinforce the desired behavior. Other children may need more of an incentive. If you choose to provide your child with incentives, we provide you with many age appropriate ideas such as choosing a favorite meal, making cookies, a bike ride, blowing bubbles, friend time, and more.
You can do daily or weekly incentives or both. Or another option is to receive an incentive when you fill a line with stickers or marks. You could also use a point system with a goal to reach a certain number of points. It is up to you how and if you want to use the incentives.
If you are using incentives, we suggest that at the beginning of the day or week, talk with your child and decide on the goals and incentives. You can adjust their goal as necessary. You want children to feel success, so you may need to start out with a smaller goal at first. The idea is for children to get in the habit of displaying the character traits desired. Each child is different, so you can adjust it so it works for your child.
