Let's Make Friendship Snack Mini Book
Teach Caring, Cheerful Attitude, Hard Work, & More
9 pages
Ages 4-8
This is a great activity to reinforce social skills needed to create a warm and caring atmosphere in the classroom or at home. The kids love it when I read the book and make the friendship snack as we read. The printable is set up so you can print it double-sided, then cut in half, and just staple.
I ask the kiddos the questions in the book and see what answers they come up with. Then I offer some answers (if they have not come up with them on their own). For example, when we discuss attitude, this is a perfect time to share some classroom or household rules. One of my classroom expectations is that if they don’t like something we are doing (they need to say it in their head). If they think something is boring, they can say it in their head. We discuss that if they try things, they might like it. And if they don’t that is ok, but they don’t say it aloud.
When talking about hard workers, this is a perfect time to tell children we don’t expect them to know all the answers. Explain that sometimes we learn more if they have wrong answers and not to be afraid to give wrong answers. We solve problems together and learn together. Children learn more if they aren’t afraid to share their ideas.
At the end of the book, I ask if they want me to add more ingredients. This makes a great snack and can last for several days. We talk about measuring to reinforce math skills and vocabulary.
The book can be used to teach print concepts such as title page, reading left to right, etc. Discuss the differences between letters, words, and sentences. Children can help illustrate the book by coloring the pages.
